Oyster Spat Collection

The SCORE program has branched out. We've started a new project to involve dockowners in oyster restoration.  Interested parties will hang bags of oyster shells from their docks during the summer.  After oyster juveniles have attached to the shells they will be transferred to prepared oyster reef sites.  If successful, this process could extend the time frame for oyster reef construction which currently ends in mid-August.  That would allow more oyster restoration to occur each year.

The pilot program is being conducted in conjunction with Bears Bluff National Fish Hatchery on Wadmalaw Island and focusses on nearby waterways.  If you own a dock in Bohicket Creek, Toogoodoo Creek, Leadenwah Creek, or Wadmalaw River and would be interested in participating please contact us by calling 843-953-9068 or emailing
